Terra Technologies was retained by Penske Truck Leasing Co., L.P. (Penske) to properly remove two 20,000-gallon diesel underground storage tanks (UST's) from the former Rollins Truck Leasing Facility located in the City of St. Louis and one 10,000-gallon gasoline UST and one 20,000-gallon diesel UST from a former Penske facility located in Hazelwood, Missouri.
The purpose of the work to be performed was to properly remove the UST's in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) UST Closure Guidance Document. All of the necessary notifications were submitted prior to tank removal activities including: the MDNR, the Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund, and the local Fire Departments. The tanks were successfully removed from the two sites.
Impacted soil was encountered during UST removal activities at each of the sites and a total of approximately 1,688 tons of petroleum impacted material was removed from the areas of concern. Post-excavation confirmatory soil sampling indicated that all of the impacted material had been properly removed. The excavations were backfilled with clean fill and compacted in lifts and compaction to at least 95% Proctor density using Method ASTM D698 was confirmed.
A No Further Action Letter was provided by the MDNR for each of the Sites. Penske received reimbursement from the Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund for the impacted soil removal activities.
