In this stream reach located between housing developments, an ephemeral channel approximately one foot in width has eroded in one location creating a head cut resulting in a five foot drop in base elevation.
In order to solve this problem, Terra Technologies designed a rock structure to re-establish and maintain the original stream base elevation. Upstream and downstream from the five foot grade change, additional grade control is proposed only as required to maintain stream base integrity. A total of 16 cubic yards of angular rock blanket is required for grade control in the base of the channel between the ordinary high water marks. This structure will also help to limit on-going sediment migration to downstream receiving waters.
Importantly, this project design emphasizes the re-establishment of native trees and shrubs and the use of a cost-effective GRSS slope.
