Terra Technologies Inc., in conjunction with Swallow Tail LLC, announces approval of the Stranger Creek Wetland and Stream Mitigation Bank in Leavenworth County, Kansas by the US Army Corps of Engineers in consultation with the Kansas Interagency Review Team.
Construction of the 65-acre restoration project commenced in 2008 and was completed in 2010. The project provides high quality wetland and stream mitigation credits for purchase within the Lower-Kansas watershed and portions of the Middle-Kansas, Delaware, and Missouri watersheds which includes the cities of Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka. Ecological improvements at the site include wetland creation, wetland restoration, riparian corridor restoration, stream channel restoration, and stream bank stabilization. No less than 130 species of prairie grasses, wildflowers, wetland plants, trees, and shrubs are established at the site just north of Linwood, Kansas.
Stranger Creek is an impaired water on the Kansas 303(d) list. Restoration of the site contributes to improved water quality within the watershed and provides wildlife habitat to numerous species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. Scientists with Terra Technologies continue to monitor ecological improvements at the property. Please contact your local Terra Technologies Office for information about wetland and stream mitigation credit purchases.
