Press Release:

Shane Staten To Give Talk Regarding The Sni-A-Bar Creek Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank at SWS Conference on September 15, 2011

September 12, 2011

Shane Staten, Terra Technologies' Senior Wetland Ecologist, will address the upcoming annual meeting of the Central Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists with a presentation about the Sni-A-Bar Creek Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank. This 70-acre mitigation bank is one of three operating mitigation banks established by Terra Technologies that surround the Kansas City area and offset environmental impacts to wetlands and streams from development and construction projects.

The Sni-A-Bar Creek mitigation bank is located near Grain Valley, Missouri and includes almost 30 acres of wetland restoration and enhancement and almost 40 acres of riparian corridor creation and enhancement. It provides mitigation resources for almost the entire portion of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area in Missouri. Mr. Staten’s talk will focus on the design strategies and lessons learned from this site which was built in 2006 and 2007.

The Society of Wetland Scientists is the world’s largest professional society focusing on wetland science and management. The Central Chapter, which represents Society members in Missouri and Kansas, is hosting a two-day conference featuring local speakers and a wetland plant identification class. Past meetings have been attended by wetland scientists, managers, regulators, academics and other environmental professionals. More information about the event is available online at www.sws.org/regional/central.
