Press Release:

Scientists Complete Natural Resource Assessment of Peebles Lake In Grandview Missouri

May 27, 2010

Danny DeAngelo and Shane Staten with Terra Technologies successfully completed a Natural Resource Assessment of Peebles Lake and its surrounding property in northern Grandview, Jackson County, Missouri.

Peebles Lake is a 20-acre parcel surrounded by forest and natural grassland. Scientists with the firm performed the Natural Resource Assessment to determine if the property would qualify as a relatively natural form of terrestrial or aquatic habitat as defined in Internal Revenue Service Section 170. In order to determine the natural resource value of the property, scientists studied the physiographic region, soils, hydrology, and biotic community of the property.

The underlying soils and physiographic region were studied to determine how fundamental climatic and ecological processes shaped the soils and historic biotic communities. From this, it was determined that the property could support significant and stable animal and plant habitats. In order to assess the quality of the plant community, a field inspection was performed to develop a Floristic Quality metric for the observed plant species. This analysis confirmed the presence of a valuable native terrestrial community capable of supporting a diverse animal community.

The owner is proceeding with the recordation of a conservation easement granted to the Midwest Mitigation Oversight. For more information about Natural Resource Assessments, contact your local office of Terra Technologies.
