David Flick, Terra Technologies Principal & Horticulturalist, along with Shane Staten, Terra Technologies Wetland Specialist & Environmental Scientist, will be speaking regarding the creation of Rain Gardens. Their talk will be part of three Professional Training and Certification sessions for the Kansas City area's 10,000 Rain Gardens initiative which will be held at the Prairie & Wetland Center in Belton, Missouri.
Mr. Flick and Mr. Staten will discuss the specifics of how to construct rain gardens. They will touch on such subjects as how to ensure successful native plant installation and maintenance, how to appropriately remove existing undesireable vegetation, and how to pick a favorable site for a rain garden. Additionally, they will explain the advantages of plugging vs. seeding, how to find local-source products and services, and how maintenance is the key to a successful rain garden.
The Training Sessions are geared for professionals in the public and private sectors and will be taking place on January 24, February 21, and March 7, 2006. Attendees will be certified by the 10,000 Rain Gardens organization. There will be a fee for the course.
