Nationwide Permits (NWPs) authorize activities that have minor impacts to jurisdictional waters. As required by the Congress, every five years the US Army Corps of Engineers revises general and specific conditions of all NWPs, including the creation or elimination of specific NWPs. As part of this process, the US Army Corps of Engineers seeks comments from the general public including citizens, business interests, environmental groups, and other governing agencies. These comments, including those submitted by Terra Technologies, will be considered in the final writing of the NWPs which are intended to be issued before the current NWPs expire on March 18, 2012.
Because the current NWPs will expire in Spring 2012 it is recommended that projects authorized by those permits be initiated before the deadline, if possible. An automatic 1-year extension is allowed for any project currently under contract or for activities initiated prior to the NWP expiration date.
For NWP projects not initiated prior to expiration, scientists with Terra Technologies can assist the applicant in obtaining a new permit verification letter. In most instances, the application process is simple and new permits are issued within 30 days of receipt by the Corps of Engineers. For more information about expiring and new Nationwide Permits, contact your local office of Terra Technologies.
