David Flick, Principal and Founder, announces the firm has successfully completed Clean Water Act permitting and threatened and endangered species due diligence for the proposed Mill Creek 9 Sanitary Sewer expansion in Olathe, Kansas. A jurisdictional assessment identified a total of 5,311 lineal feet of intermittent stream, 303 lineal feet of ephemeral stream, 0.13 acre of wetland, and 0.45 acre of pond within the limits of the proposed sewer expansion. Terra Technologies also completed a critical habitat survey for threatened and endangered species under the Kansas Nongame and Endangered Species Act. The critical habitat survey did not identify any critical habitat for state or federally listed species and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks concurred with the findings of the critical habitat survey and report.
The US Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 Permit and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Section 401 Water Quality Certification required the avoidance of the majority of jurisdictional stream channels & wetlands and restoration of stream banks, wetlands, and other disturbed areas. Terra Tech designed the restoration plan to restore temporary impacts to all intermittent and ephemeral stream channels and wetlands for construction of the proposed sewer. Stream restoration activities include stabilization of stream banks in the location of sewer impacts with rolled erosion control products, coir log toes, and native vegetation plantings. Wetland restoration activities include spreading of stripped wetland topsoil and native vegetation plantings. Additionally, all vegetation will be restored where it is disturbed within the sewer easement. Construction of the sewer project and restoration activities will begin in the summer of 2011. |
