Terra Technologies, Inc. has successfully completed Clean Water Act permitting for the Lion’s Lake Dredging Project in Warrensburg, Johnson County, Missouri.
The City of Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Department retained Terra Technologies to investigate how to address the excessive sedimentation problems affecting Lions Lake. It was determined that the main body of Lions Lake should be dredged and lowered an elevation of approximately three feet. This would significantly reduce the sediment levels within the lake and alleviate many of its current problems.
In early 2011 Terra Technologies completed a jurisdictional assessment on Lion’s Lake and the proposed spoils site for the dredged material in order to identify the limits of wetlands and other waters of the United States. A total of 0.21 acres of jurisdictional emergent wetlands and 13.0 acres of jurisdictional open water existed within the dredging area. The spoils site was determined to be an isolated non-jurisdictional feature. Upon identifying the limits of jurisdictional features, Terra Technologies developed a dredge plan that avoided the majority of the jurisdictional wetlands within Lions Lake and submitted the plan for 404 Permit authorization. The 404 Permit was received in March 2011 and no compensatory mitigation was required. The dredging project will be completed in May 2011. Terra Technologies will also be conducting site inspections throughout the dredging operation.
