Terra Technologies completed the oversight of dredging operations for Lion’s Lake in Warrensburg, Missouri in the summer of 2011. The small community lake had largely filled with sediments since construction in the 1950’s and the impoundment had become overrun with water lilies each summer for the past 5 or 10 years. During the late summer and fall as the vegetation began to decompose, the water became hypoxic due to lack of oxygen and the amenity had become a nuisance due to the odor of rotting vegetation.
Terra Technologies designed a dredge plan to address these conditions by increasing water depths throughout the lake such that the ability of water lilies to colonize would be greatly reduced. Dredging operations commenced in the spring of 2011, after the lake had thawed, and continued through July when operations were completed. The hydraulic dredging was performed by Environmental Resources Inc. The final lake bathymetry revealed that a minimum depth of 6 feet had been achieved throughout the lake creating conditions challenging for water lilly establishment.
