David Flick, Principal and Founder, announces that the firm has been selected as the provider of mitigation services for BNSF Railway’s Gardner Kansas Intermodal Facility. Mitigation for the project will create 30+ acres of newly created wetlands and 30+ acres of riparian restoration in conjunction with approximately 5,000 linear feet of stream relocation within a Conservation Corridor. The mitigation project, designed by HDR Engineering, represents one of the largest on-site efforts for habitat creation in conjunction with storm water run-off treatment. Approximately 300 acre feet of annual run-off will be routed through the wetlands to remove minor pollutants.
Swallow Tail LLC, the firm’s natural resource holding company, will retain ownership and manage the mitigation site through perpetuity. A conservation easement for the site will be held by the Midwest Mitigation Oversight Association Inc., a local non-profit conservation business. Improvements will be constructed by Swallow Tail with oversight and monitoring from the scientists and engineers at the Leawood office of Terra Technologies. The BNSF Conservation Corridor is one of eight large scale mitigation sites planned for construction in 2009.
