Construction has begun on the BNSF Kansas City Intermodal Facility near Edgerton Kansas. Mitigation under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for the project will create 30+ acres of new wetlands and restore 35+ acres of riparian habitat in conjunction with approximately 5,000 linear feet of stream relocation within a Conservation Corridor.
Swallow Tail LLC , the firm’s natural resource holding company, will retain ownership and manage the mitigation site. A conservation easement for the site will be held by the Midwest Mitigation Oversight Association Inc., a local non-profit conservation group. Construction of habitat improvements will be initiated by Swallow Tail D/B Inc., the firm’s design/build entity in July 2011. Oversight and monitoring will be conducted by the scientists and engineers at the Leawood office of Terra Technologies. |
